He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude William and Bernice Eloise Dodd (Strater); his son Mark McDonald; and his sister Karen Jordan. He is survived by: his children, Butch McDonald (Susan) of Montrose, Robert Dodd Jr. of Peoria and Kristy Dodd of Sullivan; and his siblings, Bill Dodd (Louise) of Arkansas and Kathy Nichols of Mattoon. He is also survived by four grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
