He was predeceased by: his parents, Candelario Ortega and Emilia Ortega; and his siblings, Alonso, Ruben, Martina and Rudelio.

He is survived by: his wife Maria Guadalupe; his children, Gloria (David) and Rogelio P. (George); his sisters, Minerva Dugger, Minda Burden and Maxine Reyna; and his brother-in-law Tio.
