He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Bill" Hamilton and Virginia Kiger Hamilton; his brother Jim Hamilton; and his brother-in-law James Hawbaker. He is survived by: his children, Todd Hamilton (Jacque) and Amy Hamilton (Dustin Shepard); his grandchildren, Justin Chandler (Tamra), Dalton Chandler (Brooke), Tyler, Kaylee and Drake Hamilton; his great grandchildren, Charley Jayne, Carver and Presley; his sisters, Linda Hawbaker and Gail Hamilton; his close friend Terri Rauhaus; his sister-in-law Tracy Hamilton (Jayne Pearson); his niece Kate Hawbaker (Justin Mansak); his nephew Christopher Hawbaker (Rosy); and also Zack.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Oquawka Toy Drive and Stead Family Children's Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

“I'm sadden to hear of Kent's passing. I enjoyed knowing him for over 40 years. Golfing and going to the University of Iowa football games were always great times. I was totally surprised when he called me out of the blue around Christmas time in 2021. He had found a scrap of paper with my telephone number on it. He called and I answered...what a great visit we had for close to an hour. Prayers to the family and friends he has left behind. We talked about all of them during that call!”
