He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Sparrow and Hattie Sparrow (McPeak); his siblings, Martha and Jim; and his pets, Oreo and Bailey.

He is survived by: his former wife Nancy Springer; his wife Karen Sparrow of Monmouth, IL; his stepchildren, Kim Sparrow of Monmouth, IL, Kaye Thompson of Macomb, IL, Lori Frakes of Macomb, IL., Mary Dawn Becker (Randy) of Waterloo, IA, Lisa Leonard of Fairfield, IA and Paul Peterson (Stacy) of Burlington, IA; and his siblings, Clydene and Lawrence. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for his family.
