He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Michael F. Schmidgall, Sr. and Sylvia R. Klein; his spouse Emalou Corinne Leach; his children, Jacquelyn Schmidgall of Kewanee, Joan Harrison (Bill) of Minier and Michael Schmidgall (Lisa) of Mackinaw; his grandchildren, Justin, Brandon Schmidgall, Corinne and Shane Harrison; his great grandchildren, Quinn and Ozzie Schmidgall; and his sister Betty Davison.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to Minier Fire & Rescue, Minier Christian Church or The University of Iowa Cornea Clinic.
