It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Beatrice Benton of Milan, Illinois, born in Westside, Iowa, who passed away on August 27, 2023, at the age of 101, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, James Lawler and Margaret Lawler; and her siblings, Blanche Mary and John Lawler (Catherine). She is survived by: her former spouse Thomas I. Smith; her husband Lyman W. Benton; her children, Sharon Meers (Richard) of Milan, IL and Dr. Ronald Smith (Susan) of Gloucester, VA; and her grandchildren, Michele Meers of Milan, IL, Cynthia Schoeck (Jim) and Dr. Joshua Smith (Nicole) of Newport News, VA. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
