She was predeceased by: her father Lowell Ashford; her son Jeremy Newberry; her sister Karla Sawyers; and her father-in-law John H. Steele. She is survived by: her husband John D. Steele; her mother Velma Ashford; her daughters, Amanda Steele and Misty York (Doug); her grandchildren, John Keeghan Steele, Garrett Chumbler, Tessa Chumbler, Aaron Caldwell, Josh Caldwell, Kayla Bowman, Reagan Caldwell and Hallie Bowman; her siblings-in-law, Jeff and Karen Oliver; and her mother-in-law Brenda Steele. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
