He was predeceased by: his parents, William Butterfield and Lawanda Butterfield (Sanders); and his brothers, Steve Johnson, Paul Homberg and Mack Butterfield.

He is survived by: his brother Edward Johnson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
