He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Stephens and Ida Mae Stephens (Foreman); his former wife Gladys A. Dinwiddie; his grandson Bret Robert Stephens; and his brother Darrell Stephens.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Packard (Riner); his sons, Robert Dean Stephens (Tammy) of Charleston, IL, Dr. Jamie Stephens (Traci) of Tolono, IL and Rusty Stephens of Thailand; his stepsons, Shawn Durbin (Angie) and Danny Durbin (Jodi); his grandchildren, Ava, Austin, Will and Emaline Stephens; and his siblings, Barbara Stephens Kohensky, Everett Leroy Stephens (Lucille), Jimmy Lee Daugherty (Shelley), Rhonda Daugherty, Gary Wayne Daugherty, Janice Cecil (Kevin), Daymon Dennis Stephens (Etta) and Denver Devon Stephens (Lil). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in his honor may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Donor's Choice.
