He was predeceased by : his parents, David L. Nelson and Victoria Nelson (Golick); his parents-in-law, Philip and Margaret Villhauer; his daughter-in-law Ann Marie Campagna; his brother Roger V. Nelson; and his pet Hunter.

He is survived by : his wife Janice Villhauer; his children, David Mark Nelson, Theresa Nelson, Roger Nelson (Kelly), Dan Nelson (Katy) and Laura Nelson; his grandchildren, David Spenser Nelson (Victoria), Aubrey Nelson, Christopher Deporter (Allison), Philip Nelson (Meghan Geier), Sarah Nelson, Charlotte Nelson, Adeline Nelson, Danny Nelson, Thomas Nelson and Caroline Nelson; his great grandchildren, Cole and Margaret Deporter; and his cousin Charlotte Carlson.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory (201 4th Ave E, Milan, IL 61264).
