He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Walter, Florence Behrends, Mac and Elsie Swaar; his uncle Bill Swaar; and his aunt Roselyn Behrends.
He is survived by: his parents, Darrel Behrends and Anna Behrends (Swaar) of Mason City; his cousins, Lisa and Molly Steffens; his wife Leonda Markee; his daughters, Kim Haywood (James) of Rushville and Liz M. B. Yadav (Adi) of Medford, Massachusetts.; his grandchildren, Pearl Haywood, A. J. Haywood and Akira Yadav; his siblings, Martha Konzelman (Mark) of Medina and Jan Wenzelburger (Frauke); his sister-in-law Linda Markee; his nephew Nathan Markee of Easthampton, Massachusetts.; his niece Alisha Markee-Ala of Easthampton, Massachusetts.; and his aunts and uncles, Darwyn Behrends of Mason City, Joe Behrends (Mary Rose) of Urbana, Bob Swaar (Sarah Jane) of Greenview, Kathy Swaar of Lincoln and John Swaar of Shelbyville.
