He was predeceased by: his parents, Merrille Varland and Cora Varland (Heinly). He is survived by: his wife Nancy Varland of Marseilles; his sons, Mark A. Varland (Amanda) of Marseilles and Kurt E. Varland (Mary) of Atkinson; his grandchildren, Andrew, Rebekah, Kathryn, Matthew, Rachael and Cora Varland; and his brother-in-law Bill Laugaland (Chris).
Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, Ottawa, OSF St. Elizabeth's Hospice or to the Grand Ridge Fire Department.
