He was predeceased by: his parents, Mathias Cook and Apollonia Kramer (Roeder); his stepfather Joseph T. Kramer; his wife Tina Cook; his grandson Joseph Paul Cook III; and his siblings, Maurice Cook and Arlene Thomas.

He is survived by: his children, Joseph Paul Cook Jr. of Georgia and Catherine Martin (Joe) of Oswego; his grandchildren, Shannon Cook of Willowbrook, Daniel Martin of Quincy and Amber Russo (Jeff) of Chicago; his great grandchildren, Emily Cook, Alayna "Lainey" Martin and Adam Martin; his siblings, Judy Reese (Lowell), Jo Ann Peters (Chuck) and Richard Kramer (Jodi); and his close friend Steve Norsen (Linda).
