He was predeceased by: his grandson Dylan Hess; his nephews, Richard Virgo Jr. and Jason Happ; and his brother-in-law Richard Bankes. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis; his sons, John Hess Jr, Aaron Hess and Nathan Hess (Wendy); his grandchildren, Audri Hess, Andrew Hess, Molly Hess and Zachary Hess; his siblings, Donna Virgo (Richard) and Burton Hess (Sharon); and also Paul Parish.
