He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Schmitz; his children, John, III Schmitz (Mary Jo) of Paige, Scott Schmitz (Tami) of New Braunfels, Texas and Cynthia Schmitz of Georgetown, Texas; his grandchildren, Rachelle Galloway (Sam), Stephanie Perry (Bryan), Constance Schmitz-Mousavi, Mary Elizabeth Schmitz, Tyler Schmitz (Allie), Katie Schmitz and Spencer Schmitz (Grace); his great grandchildren, Samantha Galloway, Kayli Perry, Kacey Perry and Melony Galloway; his sister Penelope Knutson (Chuck); and his sister-in-law Peggy Foote.
