He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Raymond and Alice Louise Root (Sears); his wife Gwendolyn Sipes; his grandson Christopher Root; his siblings, Della Faye McDonald, Eldred, LaVerne and Donald Root; and his daughter-in-law Billie Jo Hall.
He is survived by: his sons, Steven Root (Vicki) of Carlyle, Michael Root of Springfield and Darrin Root (Pamela) of Marissa, Illinois; his grandchildren, Hannah Linder (Alex) of O'Fallon, Rachel Petrea (Lukas) of Salem, Gina Root of Carlyle, Matthew Davis of Carlyle, Becky Davis of New Baden, Elizabeth Root of Marissa and Rebecca Root of Marissa; his great grandchildren, Myla and Benjamin Linder; and his brother Larry Root (Nancy) of Lexington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
