He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene C. Boatright and Phyllis Boatright (Boswell). He is survived by: his siblings, Susan Fosse of Marion, Monty Boatright (Maria) of Norwood Park and Todd Boatright (Susan) of Stonefort; his nephew Adam; his niece Amy Edwards Fosse; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Avahlyn and Autrey; his nieces and nephews, Eric and Jenette Mulcahy Fosse; his great-nephew Levi; his great-niece Anna Pauline; his nieces and nephews, Meagan Boatright (Dan Carberry), Mia Boatright, Josh and Kristy Boatright; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Ella and Cannon; his nieces and nephews, Jeremy and Lindsay Boatright; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Brinley and Grant; his niece Sarah Boatright; and also Gabe. He is also survived by cousins and his lifelong friends.

In addition to collecting antique guns, during the 1990s and beyond he shared his knowledge and expertise by working as a firearms safety instructor with the Illinois 4-H Foundation.
