He was predeceased by: his parent Major James Robert "Bob"; and his siblings, Michael Alan Copeland and Karen Reynolds. He is survived by: his close friend Doris Gordon of Marion, Illinois; his sons, Ian Copeland of Marion and Matthew Copeland of Carbondale, Illinois; and his grandsons, Ian Copeland, Jr. and Dylan Thornton.
