He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Nimrod and Lillie Simmons (Hollis); his adoptive son Richard Simmons Sexton; and his siblings, Shirley Fitzpatrick, Ira "Buzzy" and William "Billy" Simmons.
He is survived by: his wife Wanda Gayle Simmons; his daughters, Debbie Stilley (Allan) and Rachette Simmons-Fiorenzi of Murphysboro; his stepchildren, Marie Delaney, Stacy Syers and Millard Brown; his grandchildren, Ian Champion (Shadigae), Asa Champion, Leslie Sexton, Michael Stilley, Misty Jorgenson, Robin Lange, Mark Stilley and Caleb Stilley; his great grandchild Elliot Champion; his stepgrandchildren, Denny Delaney, Jaque Chin (Jerry Watkins), Cody Delaney and Owen Brown; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Brittni, Jackson Chin, Willow Rose Delaney and Tyler LaBelle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.
