He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Spurgeon and Ava Spurgeon (Frye); his son Bruce Dale Spurgeon; and his sister Norma Benson. He is survived by: his wife JoAnn Overbeck; his son Todd Spurgeon (Tina) of Bartonville; his sister-in-law Karen Nelson (Bill) of Florida; his nieces, Ellen Litteken (Jeff) of St. Peters, Tracy Dye (Forrest) of Texas and Alissa Sutherland (Al) of Texas; and his nephew Michael Benson (Barb) of Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bruce Dale Spurgeon Scholarship care of Illinois Central College.
