He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Virgil Whitten and Eunice Whitten; and his sisters, Frances Baily and Doris Barnett (Marcella). He is survived by: his sister Melva Jean Reeve of Vincennes, IN; and his sons, Sam (Kim) of Odessa, FL, Tom (Elayne) of Ellaville, GA, Mark (Charlotte) of Murfreesboro, TN and Steve of Gulfport, MS. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
