He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Benge and Opal Benge (Gordon); his brother Dennis Benge; and his siblings-in-law, Clarence and Marjorie Burger.

He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Benge; his daughters, Diana Goodwin (Ken) and Donna Nelson (John); his grandchildren, Jonathan Nelson (Jennifer), Kimberly Gerdes (Andy) and Kurt Goodwin (Tammy Reed); and his great grandchildren, Alexis Hosselton (Derrick), Kaylie Kent, Sydney Nelson and Laney Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Manteno Fire Protection District.
