He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Cavender and Dorothy Ponton Cavender; and his siblings-in-law, Joe Lemna and Linda Cavender. He is survived by: his daughters, Aimee (Jeff Zilm) and Angie (Annie); his grandchildren, Oliver, Stella and Gillian of Colorado; his siblings, Judith Lemna of Minneapolis, MN and Thomas Cavender of Manteno; and his grandchildren, Kailyn Zilm of Manteno, Ivan Zilm of Manteno and Adalyn Zilm of Manteno.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Manteno American Legion.
