He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Smith and Ethel Smith (Allen); his son Butch Smith; and his sister Ruth Dowell. He is survived by: his wife Karen Schmick; his children, Tes Cooper of Manito and Rich Smith of Pekin; his stepchildren, Melanie Cox of Milton, Wisconsin and Mike Hintz (Dawn) of Trivoli; and his siblings, Ray Smith (Mary) of Pekin, Donna Smith of Manito and Rose Caulkins of Manito. He is also survived by three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
