He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Harpst and Eileen Harpst (Shea); his wife Martha McCree; his sons, Andy Harpst (Allyssa) of Mahomet and Chris Harpst (Sarah Hall) of Seymour; his stepchildren, Connie Bierman (Cam) of Austin, TX, Randy Eggemeyer (Shirley) of Matthew, MO and Mark Eggemeyer (Lorie) of Weldon; and his siblings, Tara Nichols (Ken) of Mahomet and John. He was also cherished by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
