He was loved and cherished by many people including: his son Collin Shafer of Winston, OR; his wife Kathie Whitson; his son Wesleigh "Wes" Whitson of Groton, CT; his parents-in-law, Dick and Susan Sterling; his siblings, Diane (Lynn Poplett), Dorothy (David Faulkner), Tom (Sue Whitson), Kevin (Vicki Whitson), Flora Robbins (Missouri), Jim Whitson of Joliet, IL and Marilyn Fish of Indianapolis, IN; his parents-in-law, Rick, Tracey Sterling of East Longmeadow, MA, Jenn, David Chase of Enfield, CT, Dan and Loren Sterling of Fairfield, CT; and his parents, Walter Whitson and Margaret Whitson. He was also cherished by the many nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a memorial fund at MidAmerica Bank of Macomb to help offset medical bills, cremation and other costs.
