He was predeceased by: his wife Margene; and his sisters, Valerie and Charlotte. He is survived by: his nephew Glen Fritz of Virginia; his niece Stephanie Walters; his brother-in-law John Edwards; and his caregiver Tina White.
After Margene's death, Philip became a local philanthropist, donating generously to the YMCA, Macomb Art Center, WIUM, the Humane Society and Samaritan Well. Memorial donations should be made to any of those Macomb organizations.
