He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank X. Long and Theresia Wurdinger Long; his daughters, Jacqueline and Dianne; his siblings, Pauline, Katherine, Lena, Rose and Carl; and his great grandchild Gabriel.

He is survived by: his wife Elsie M. Dietrich; his children, Julie Darnall (David) of Minier, Jerry Long (Sharon) of Mackinaw and Ron Long (Sally) of Minier; and his siblings, Helen Weishaupt of Mackinaw, Melvin Long (Dorothy) of Mackinaw and George Long (Mary) of Mackinaw.

Memorials may be made to his church, Mackinaw Rescue Squad, or Childrens Hospital of Illinois.
