He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold and Velma; his stepfather Dwight Briner; his siblings, Leroy Poignant (Marie) and Lois Danhof (Ronnie); and his grandsons, Evan and Alec Safford.

He is survived by: his son Dean Poignant (Stephanie) of Lacon; his grandchildren, Jennifer Safford (Mike) of East Peoria, Nicholas Poignant (Brittany), Deanna Chambers (Clark), Austin Safford, Samuel Poignant, Benjamin Poignant, Matthew Connolly, Autumn Safford and Lauren Nevitt (Trenten); his great grandchildren, Ian and Isabella Poignant; his pet Alice; his sisters, Betsy Nolan (Gerry) and Esther Ely (Darrell); and his stepsister Delight Massey (Michael). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
