He was predeceased by: his parents, Gene Garrett and Lillian Garrett; his spouse Mary Lou Mardis; his sister Kathryn Shoulders; and his great grandchild Kaiden J. Cox.

He is survived by: his children, Robert E. Garrett (Lisa) of Lovington and Brenda S. Hearn of Mahomet; and his brother Merle Garrett (Dorothy) of Atwood. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
