She was predeceased by: her parents, Russell Houston and Ollie Houston (Geoffrey); her husband James H Smith Sr.; her daughter Aileen Carrico (Nina McLaughlin); and her brother Marshall Houston.

She is survived by: her children, Brenda McLaughlin (Daniel), Juanita Triplett (Ralph Lowery) and James H. Smith Jr.; her grandchildren, Karri, Michael, Andy, Ryan, Kristi, Tommy, James (Taci), Timothy (Danielle), Jennifer (Nate), Jessie, Heather and Natasha; and her sons-in-law, Kenny Carrico and Bill McLaughlin. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
