He was predeceased by: his father Edwin August; his siblings, Lorraine Swingler (Bill), Rich Johnson (Gail) and Ray Johnson (Beverly); and his son Todd.
He is survived by: his wife Marge (Marjorie); his children, Kim Johnson (Larry) of Holland, MI, Gregg Johnson (Teri) of Woodlands, TX and Rick Johnson (Jayne) of Villa Park; and his grandchildren, Melanie (Los Angeles), Kelly (Villa Park), Caitlin, Elise (Oswego), Zack (Washington DC) and Claire (Chicago).
