He was predeceased by: his wife Susan; his parents, Lucio Vela and Delores Vela; and his siblings, Frank Vela and Rey Pavy.
He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Dawn; his son Louis Vela (Dawn); his grandchildren, Brittany Guzman, Marisa Johnson and Nathan Vela; his great grandchild Eli Ramirez; and his siblings, Steve, Paul Vela (Susan), Teresa Pavy (Rick), Louise Vela–Ray (Don), Christine Happ (Jerry) and Toni Ellis (Tim). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
