He is survived by: his wife Donna Lea Howard; his children, Robert E. Schmelter, III of Corpus Christi and Susan Stewart (John) of Worden, IL.; his siblings, GySgt David Schmelter (June), Janet Hanna of Exton, PA and Brenda Beljanski of Granite City, IL.; his grandchildren, Robert Dylan Schmelter, Brittney Rydberg (Thomas) and Amanda Bess; and his great grandchildren, Avery, Thomas and Bennett.
