We are sad to announce that on March 1, 2020, at the age of 87, Gladys Marie Elkins (Lincoln, Illinois), born in Elkhart, Illinois passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, George Elwood and Virgie Van Fossan (Rhodes); her husband Stephen Bailey Elkins; and her siblings, George, Loren Ray, Freda White and Ethel Overbey.

She is survived by: her children, Stephen R. Elkins and Dianna Hamblin (Kevin) of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Jamie Wellbaum (Joe) of Springfield, IL, Jeremy Hamblin (Kayophe) of St. Louis, Candice M. Elkins of Lincoln, IL and Colby Elkins (Felicia Najera) of Savannah, GA.; her great grandchildren, Brooke and Michael Wellbaum of Springfield; her siblings, Helen Hoagland, Laura Mae Molt, Margaret Edwards (David), Rose Mary Musick, Sharon Follis (Jim), Jean Boyer (Harold) and Claude Van Fossan (Carla) of Lincoln; and her children, Rhonda Chism of Pekin, IL and Donald Robertson of Chicago, IL..

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gladys' name to the Lincoln Railer Boys Basketball Booster Club.

“My friend Steve Elkins and Family. I wanted you all to know how grateful I was to sit and care for Ms Gladys. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. I treated her like she was my own Mother and it was a joy like none other to have had the opportunity to help her in her time of need. We sang spiritual songs, prayed together, colored flowers, took strolls in the park etc. One of My most memorable moments was how she sat in her chair on the patio patiently awaiting Steve’s arrival. Oh that smile!”
