He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Percival E. Thannert and Yetta D. Zeh Thannert; and his sister Polly Sowers of Mount Pleasant, SC.. He was also cherished by three grandchildren: four step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
