He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Rife and Dorothy Rife (Ertmer); and his siblings, Carol Fischer (Tippett) and Don Rife. He is survived by: his wife Deb Rife; his children, Jessica Engle (Brian), Jerod Rife (Kristen), Rob Knoll and Jake Knoll; his grandchildren, Bryton, Avery, Lily Engle, Isaac, Samuel and Elizabeth Rife; and his siblings, Connie Ertmer (Eugene), Tom Rife (Nancy), Marg Gulovich (Tom) and Julie Jobgen (Randy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
