She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, William Ruthe and Louella Ruthe (Meyers); her husband Melvin Schmitt; her daughters, Sandra and Linda Lindstrom; her granddaughters, Valerie Saalsaa (Raynold), Natalie Mancosky (John), Kori Huneke (Jason) and Kimberly Whitlow (Jon); her daughter Lois Jean Johnson (James); her granddaughters, Stephanie Johnson, Samantha Johsnson and Stacey Johnson (John); and her son-in-law David Lindstrom.

A memorial has been established in her name for the Salvation Army and the Zion Church of Freeport.
