He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Schmitt and Mame Schmitt (Drees); his wife Edith Vest; his sons, Rodney and Randy; his stepson Robert; and his close friend Marie O'Donnell.
He is survived by: his children, Richard Schmitt, Jr. (Janet) of Lebanon and Michelle Schmitt of St. Louis, MO; his stepson Larry Vest (Joyce) of Grafton, IL; his sister-in-law Ruth Schmitt of St. Louis; and his niece Marie. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Dept. or to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
