He was predeceased by: his parents, John James Howard and Sybil Evans (Thompson); and his brother Michael Matheny. He is survived by: his wife Alma Howard; his son James William "Jimmy" Howard of Le Roy; his grandchildren, Finley Penn Marett Howard and Landon James Howard; and his siblings, Ronald K. Howard (Mary) of St. Elmo, Kenneth B. Howard of Arrowsmith, IL and Deborah (Jeff Jones) of Vandalia.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
