He was predeceased by: his parents, Roscoe Cunningham and Bessie Cooper Cunningham; and his siblings, Mary Ellen Cunningham, Martha Brookhart and Joseph Cooper Cunningham.

He is survived by: his wife Katheryn Suzanne Cunningham (Ramsey); his children, R. D. Cunningham, Jan Cunningham Sauvigné (John), Jonathan Edward Cunningham, Michael A. Cunningham (Tricia) and Lorie Cunningham (David Joseph Lane); his sister Ruth Simms; his sister-in-law Eileen Cunningham; and his grandchildren, John Michael Sauvigné (Sallie), Katheryn Cecile Sauvigné, Michaella Lynn Cunningham, Megan Elizabeth Massie (Colton), Madelyn Claire Cunningham, Victoria Anne Noel Shinkle and Thomas Andrew Shinkle. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church or the Lawrence County Senior Citizens - in honor of the Golden Age Club #1.
