He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Leland, Sr. and Betty Ann Glidewell (Cook); his wife Jane Cunningham of Lawrenceville; his children, Monica Leigh Gaither (Tony) of Bridgeport and Joe Kent Cunningham (Jessica Wesley) of Robinson; his grandchildren, Grant Gaither of Bridgeport and Gannon Gaither of Bridgeport; his siblings, Teresa Holtz (Chuck) of Bridgeport, Jaclyn Whelen (Chris) of Kaneohe, HI, Bobbie Shuppert (Mike) of Lawrenceville and Kent Cunningham (Lauren) of Sumpter, SC; his siblings-in-law, Denny McClain (Julayne) of Bridgeport, Mike McClain (Jana) of Bridgeport, Jodie Greenlee (Roy) of Lawrenceville, Dixie Purcell (Brad) of Bridgeport and Susan Moore (Jeff) of Bridgeport; his sister Beth Ann Cunningham; and his parents-in-law, Joe and Maureen McClain. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Due to precautions and requirements concerning COVID-19, private services are being arranged.
