He was predeceased by: his brother-in-law Mark Van Baren; his parents, Robert Koontz and Clara Koontz; and his parents-in-law, Michael and Eunice Van Baren.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Koontz; his children, Robert Koontz (Jill), Shannon Koontz, Tracy Montalvo (Manuel) and Kristopher Koontz (Kathleen); his grandchildren, Ryan Koontz (Mallory), Kaylynn Koontz, Hailey Montalvo, Jenna Rae Koontz, Logan Montalvo and Hailee Teller; his sister Carol Klawitter (late Donald); and his siblings-in-law, Alice Dykshorn (late John), Frank Van Baren (Sharon) and Michael Van Baren (Charlene).
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 10th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Smits Funeral Home (2121 Pleasant Springs Ln, Dyer, IN 46311). A funeral service was held on Monday, November 11th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Peace Protestant Reformed Church (14864 101st Ave, Dyer, IN 46311). A burial was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421).
