He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Howard Derrer and Marie Derrer (Willson); his wife Fairy Brunner; his children, Allen Derrer (Judy) of Lanark and Linda Simler of Lena; his grandchildren, Jeff Derrer (Amy Slick) of Baileyville, Justin Derrer of Shannon, Brenda Westfall (Randall) of Rodney, Beth Gordon (Michael) of Springfield, IL and Brittany Simler of Portland, Oregon; his son-in-law Duane Silmer; and his great grandchild Hanna Westfall. He was also cherished by 4 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established for the Lanark Fire Department.
