He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Jackson; his parents, Marvin Erdal and Florence Erdal; and his siblings-in-law, Joseph Jackson and Beverly Robichaud.
He is survived by: his children, Dean Erdal (Melissa), David Erdal (Kim), Donna Lesnak (Bob), Douglas Erdal (Cindy) and Daniel Erdal; his grandchildren, David, Devin, Betsy, Katlin, Samantha, Mary, Claire, Jordan, Peyton, Brian, Kevin and McKenzie; and his sister-in-law Margaret Jackson. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
