He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Adam and Velna Irene Rockel Eckhardt; his son Rodney Lynn; his grandson Sean Nicholas Howardson; and his brother Bob.
He is survived by: his wife Emily Ruth Bollin; his sons, Randy (Kris) of Durham and Jeff (Dawn) of Durham; his grandchildren, Jenel Starbuck, Erica Gaines (Ryan), Dr. Michael Dale Eckhardt (Ashley), Michelle Howardson, Justin Howardson (Kerri) and Ashley Johnson (Joseph); and his great grandchildren, Sierra, Alexis Alyssa, Cayden, Mason, Oliver and Miles Dale.
A memorial has been established for the Durham United Methodist Church.
