He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Archie Collins and Ruby Gilmore Collins; his wife Rose Shaver; his children, Betty Collins of LaHarpe, William Collins of LaHarpe, Juliana Thompson of Donnellson and Patty McConnell of Burlington; his siblings, Clyde Collins, Joan Shoemaker and Adeline Weast; his grandson Caleb Peterson; and his son-in-law Karl Thompson. He was also cherished by twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion and a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
