He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Sr and Ivy M. Lane Sr. (Bechtel); his sisters, Mildred and Dorothy; and his daughter-in-law Linda.

He is survived by: his spouses, Barbara L. Sherman and Barb Lane of Knoxville; his children, Steven Lane of Victoria and Susan Smith of Victoria; his grandsons, Ian, Matthew, Tyler Smith, Daniel Smith, Dean Lane, Sylas Lane and John Lane; and his great grandchild Bridgette Witherell.
