He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Clevenger and Dena Clevenger (Gregg); his stepfather Bertis Carlson; his sister Sandra White; and his stepbrother Dick Carlson.

He is survived by: his wife Monica Jones-Smith; his children, Kristie Marquith (Troy) of Galesburg, Tracy Brennan (Brad Hambsch) of Galesburg, Dena Mummey (Greg) of Dahinda, Josh Smith of Knoxville and Chad Clevenger (Elizabeth) of Knoxville; and his siblings, Pamela Kimble (Jerry) of Sparland and Gary Clevenger (Dottie) of East Galesburg.
