She was predeceased by: her father Ellery Butts; her siblings, Burdette Butts, Rosetta Hanks and Cindy Dunbar; and her son-in-law Jim Oliver.

She is survived by: her husband Jack Townsend; her children, Jacqueline Clark (Jerry) of Mount Vernon, Glenda Oliver (Jeff Ruhl) of Kell, Vanessa Tucker (Bill) of Mount Vernon and Keith Townsend of Kell; her grandchildren, Shawnda Weemer (Michael) of Kell, Brent Townsend of Salem, Calvin Clark of Mount Vernon, Michael Tucker (Erica Jeffra) of Mount Vernon and Allison Tucker of Pittsburg, Illinois; her great grandchildren, Grace Tucker, Aiden Townsend, Nora Weemer, Olivia Jeffra and Owen York; her brother Quinten Butts (Barb) of Kinmundy, Illinois; and her brothers-in-law, Billy Townsend (Linda) of Vandalia and Myron Hanks of Kinmundy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in Laverne's honor to the Townsend family, in care of Jack Townsend.
